Located in the most seismic region of Romania, Gîrboiu winery was founded in 2005 and through large financial investments and dedication has become today one of the most appreciated wineries in Romania.
The business is managed today by Livia Gîrboiu who took over from her father at age of only 29 assisted by the winemaker Giovanni Menotti. There are over 250 hectares under production and one distinct feature of the winery was to focus from the beginning on local grape varieties such as Șarbă or Plăvaie. Livia admitted that this was one of the biggest challenges, but now Șarbă is the star of the winery and the first to be sold out. Other labels include international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Merlot and Pinot Noir.
The main brand selection include Tectonic (for young wines), Cuartz (sparkling) and Epicentrum (premium wines) inspired from the tectonically active area of Vrancea, where the continental plates collide producing frequent earthquakes. Their red wines are also well regarded, especially the indigenous grape Fetească Neagră.
