“Living is taking risks continuously“
- that is how one of the wine evangelists of Romania welcomes his guests to his small winery on the famous hills of Drăgășani.
His name is Oliver Bauer, he has Germanic roots and has been on the vine fields since he was 16. He first landed in Romania in 2003 and fell in love with the landscape and also with a Romanian lady named Raluca Bauer. In 2012, Oliver and Raluca opened their own winery, focusing on small production and great quality. Their wines are created from local varieties (Crâmpoșie Selectionată, Fetească Neagră, Negru de Drăgășani) and international varieties (Sauvignonasse, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Petit Verdot).
Oliver is considered by many a real wine explorer and his orange wine obtained from the grapes of a 40-years old Sauvignonasse vine perfectly illustrates the main values of the Bauer winery: character and authenticity.
The natural creativity can be found in every wine from the Bauer winery. Oliver is exploring various methods including extensive skin contact (up to four months) for the orange skin fermented Sauvignonasse, semi-sweet Crâmpoșie Selectionată in a Mosel style, and using Negru de Drăgășani (black native grape) for a beautiful rosé.
If you have the chance to travel to Drăgășani make sure you do not miss the Bauer winery on the top of the hill. Raluca and Oliver deserve a big round of applause for their continuous love and passion for great wines.
